Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Buyer's Guide

The Seamaster Planet Ocean is Omega's high-water-resistance dive line, rated to 600 m or more. Omega introduced it in 2005 and has changed sizes and movements several times since. On eBay you'll see several generations side by side, so the reference number matters.

The current range

Omega's current Planet Ocean catalog has three groups:

Planet Ocean 600M, 42 mm

• Reference example: 217.30.42.21.01.001 (steel on steel).
• 13.79 mm thick.
• Calibre 8912, self-winding, 60-hour power reserve.
• Master Chronometer certified, approved by METAS, resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
• Ceramic bezel with an enamel diving scale and a grade 5 titanium caseback.
• 600 m water resistance.

Planet Ocean 600M GMT Worldtimer, 45.5 mm

• Reference example: 215.92.46.22.01.006, in black ceramic.
• Calibre 8938, self-winding, with a worldtimer.
• Sapphire caseback, 600 m water resistance.

Planet Ocean 6000M Ultra Deep, 45.5 mm

• Reference example: 215.30.46.21.03.001, in O-MEGASTEEL. Titanium versions are also listed.
• 18.12 mm thick.
• Calibre 8912.
• 6,000 m water resistance, certified for saturation diving under ISO 6425:2018.

In 2019, three experimental Ultra Deep watches survived a dive to 10,928 m in the Mariana Trench, during the Five Deeps Expedition.

Older references you'll see on eBay

Omega's site still has pages for some Planet Ocean references that are no longer available. These all have a helium escape valve and 600 m water resistance:

Omega's 2025 redesign cut the 42 mm case to 13.79 mm and removed the helium escape valve. A 42 mm Planet Ocean with a valve is from before 2025.

Functions

Over the years the Planet Ocean has come in three main types:

• Date: the standard three-hand diver.
• GMT: a second time zone. The current GMT Worldtimer adds a world-time display.
• Chronograph.

All of them are rated to at least 600 m. The 6000M Ultra Deep is a separate, deeper-rated model with a domed sapphire crystal and an 18.12 mm thick case.

How to compare listings

• Get the full reference. Search it on omegawatches.com. Some references that are no longer available still have spec pages there.
• Match the movement to the reference. An 8500, 8800, 8900 and 8912 are different generations.
• Check the size. The references in this guide come in 39.5, 42, 43.5 and 45.5 mm.
• Helium escape valve or not. The older references above have one. The 2025 42 mm model does not.
• Case material. Steel, titanium, O-MEGASTEEL and ceramic versions exist.
• Warranty papers. Omega says its watches are delivered with a 5-year warranty. Ask whether the card or e-warranty transfers with the watch.
• Service history for older references.
• The return policy, so you can have the watch checked after delivery.
