Grand Seiko Automatic Date Stainless Steel SBGH261

Its name refers to the 62GS, which Grand Seiko describes as its first automatic watch and dates to 1967. The 9S85 inside is self-winding with manual winding, beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) and runs for about 55 hours. When it arrived in 2009, it restored the high frequency that some Grand Seiko movements had used in the late 1960s.

The case is 40 mm across and 12.9 mm thick, under a sapphire crystal. The regular steel Hi-Beat 36000 date watches, the white-dial SBGH201 and black-dial SBGH205, use the same calibre in a 40.2 mm case, 13 mm thick, and the titanium SBGH243 and SBGH245 share the 40 mm size at 13.3 mm. The SBGH254, another limited Hi-Beat, comes in a run of 150 with a brown dial. The titanium Professional 600 m Diver SBGH255 puts the 9S85 in a far larger case, 46.9 mm across and 17 mm thick.
