Grand Seiko Quartz watches

Grand Seiko Quartz covers the brand's 9F quartz watches. Grand Seiko began in 1960 as Seiko's highest-grade domestic line and has been presented as a separate brand since 2017. Seiko introduced the 9F in 1993, rated to within 10 seconds a year. A twin-pulse motor gives it the torque to drive the large hands of a Grand Seiko dial, a backlash-control mechanism keeps the seconds hand from shuddering as it comes to rest, and the date changes instantly.

For the calibre's 25th anniversary in 2018, Grand Seiko made two limited editions regulated to within 5 seconds a year. The SBGT241 is a 39.1 mm steel day-date on the 9F83, based on the first 9F watch of 1993, and was made in 1,500 pieces. The SBGV238 puts the 9F82 in a 40 mm case based on the 44GS, with an 18k yellow gold bezel and a display back, in a run of 600.

The reference prefix tells the rest apart. SBGX models are the smaller watches, 35.5 to 38.8 mm, on the 9F61 without a date or the 9F62 with one. Most are steel, with silver, black or cream dials; the SBGX219 is white gold, the SBGX218 yellow gold with a champagne dial, and the SBGX202 steel and yellow gold. The SBGX291 and SBGX293 are 38.8 mm anti-magnetic versions in steel. SBGV models are 39 to 40 mm on the 9F82 date calibre: the SBGV235 and SBGV237 in steel with blue or black dials, and the SBGV229, SBGV231 and SBGV233 in titanium with silver, black or blue dials. The SBGT241 adds the day of the week with the 9F83.
