About Tudor

Tudor dates from February 1926, when the name 'The Tudor' was registered in Geneva by the watchmaking firm Veuve de Philippe Hüther on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex. Wilsdorf took over the trademark in 1936 and formally created Montres Tudor SA in 1946. Like Rolex, Tudor is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation.

Its first diving watch, the Oyster Prince Submariner of 1954, was waterproof to 100 m, and from the 1960s to the mid-1980s Tudor supplied tool watches to the French Navy. The Heritage Black Bay of 2012 reinterpreted early Tudor Submariner models; the Ranger followed in 2014. In 2015 Tudor launched its first in-house movement, in the Pelagos and North Flag; the Pelagos has a 42 mm titanium case waterproof to 500 m. Its Black Bay models use manufacture movements made by Kenissi, a Tudor subsidiary. Tudor's manufacture in Le Locle, where Kenissi also assembles movements, opened in 2023.
