About Panerai
Panerai traces its origins to 1860, when Giovanni Panerai opened a watchmaker's shop in Florence. Under his grandson Guido Panerai the firm became a supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy, and from the 1930s it supplied dive watches to the Navy's frogmen.
Radiomir, the name of its radium-based luminous material, became the name of its first diving model; Luminor, a tritium-based successor, also gave its name to a collection. Panerai entered the civilian market in 1993 and was acquired in 1997 by the Vendôme group, now Richemont. Its watches are made at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
