Casio

In Japan in the early 1970s, a group of four brothers were successfully making and selling reliable calculators for the mass business market. Casio, led by Toshio Kashio in Development, realized that watches were simply a more-elegant calculator, adding up seconds to equal minutes, and so on. By November 1974, Casio had released the Casiotron QW02 electronic watch, featuring an automatic calendar that adjusted for longer and shorter months. This eliminated the need to reset the calendar date every month. By 1983, the Casiotron had made way for the G-Shock, which would enjoy multiple upgrades over the years, and go on to sell 100 million units worldwide by August 2017.
