About Grand Seiko

Grand Seiko was introduced in December 1960 by Suwa Seikosha, the Seiko company now known as Seiko Epson; the first model used the calibre 3180. The 44GS of 1967, the first Grand Seiko made by Daini Seikosha, established what the company calls the "Grand Seiko Style", the design language its watches still follow. At Baselworld in 2017 Seiko announced that Grand Seiko would be presented as an entirely separate brand, with the Grand Seiko logo at twelve o'clock.

Grand Seiko uses three movement types: mechanical 9S calibres, assembled at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture; 9F quartz calibres, introduced in 1993; and Spring Drive 9R calibres, the first automatic version of which, the 9R65, arrived in 2004. Quartz and Spring Drive watches are made at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture. The brand belongs to Seiko Watch Corporation, a subsidiary of Seiko Group Corporation.
