Longines Avigation L2.831.4.53.2

Longines based it on a watch made for the British Army to military requirements for toughness, legibility and resistance to magnetism. The name joins aviation and navigation. The broad arrow at the top of the dial is the mark the United Kingdom used for government property, military equipment included. Inside is the self-winding L704.2, built on the ETA A07.171, with a 48-hour power reserve and a soft-iron cage around it against magnetic fields. The date sits at 3 o'clock, a sapphire crystal covers the dial, and the lugs take a 25 mm strap.

The Avigation Big Eye (L2.816.4.53.2), the Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 (L2.812.4.53.2) and the Avigation Oversize Crown (L2.777.4.53.2) are smaller, all in 41 mm steel cases with black dials. The Avigation Watch Type A-7 (L2.779.4.53.0) goes the other way, at 49 mm.
