Hamilton

The Hamilton Watch Company is currently based in Switzerland but was founded in 1892 as an American firm, named after James Hamilton, son of Andrew Hamilton. Hamilton Sr. was a Scottish-born attorney, credited with founding Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was also the owner of the original Lancaster site on which the factory was located. The company ended American manufacturing in 1969. Eventually integrating into the Swatch Group after a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company now forms part of the world's largest watch manufacturing and marketing conglomerate. The Swatch Group owns controlling shares in at least 20 other watch brands, including Jaquet Droz, Omega, and Calvin Klein watches and jewelry.
